Hi guys !
Four years ago I bought a new pc and for a short period of time it was pretty decent for gaming. I bought it with a Gygabyte GA-MA-770-US3 motherboard, a AMD Athlon II X2 240 CPU and a Saphire ati hd 4550 512mb ddr3 videocard. Now I managed to get my hands on a nvidia gt9800 1gb ddr3 Asus videocard and I want a CPU upgrade too. The problem is that my motherboard only supports AM2, AM2+ and AM3 processors and all the new processors are in FM2, FM2+ and AM3+ sockets. I heard that though the BIOS is not compatible with the new socket type, the AM3+ processor fits in an AM3 socket. Is that true? Moreover, can I update my motherboard BIOS in order to be able to use the new type of processor ?
P.S. : I know my motherboard supports an Phenom II X6 or somthing like that, but that processor is way more expensive than an AMD FX for example. Please, help me (and my pocket) !
Thank you very much for your support and for reading this. Have a good day !

If they have a bios update explicitly says that it can use a AM3+ CPU, then it can. I know some motherboards did have an update to where it was possible to do so.

Otherwise, AM3+ will only work in an AM3+ socket on a motherboard.
