Have a SATA 500Gb hard drive running on windows XP in a desktop tower that is a few years old. Decided to partiotion it to see if I can install windows 7 on the 2nd partition and see if I can find all the drivers for my PC. However a quarter way through during partitioning it froze and stopped moving forward. I have since learnt I should have (a) backed up my data, (b) CHKDSk the drive and (c) defragged the drive. Anyway, my problem now is tha tthe hard drive cannot be detected internally or externally, in windows or DOS, not even in BIOS. Please help. Thanks.

Solution
I would suggest verifying the connections to the drive, and then running killdisk (http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm) to totally wipe the drive and then try to repartition the drive and format it.
