How do I properly use the 8-pin adapter that came with my R9 290 video card?

my power supply has a 8pin and a 6-pin cable, but the 8-pin is already being used by the motherboard. how do i use the 8-pin adapter that came with it? it looks like:

am i supposed to plug TWO regular 4pin power cables into BOTH of those mouths? like what i've done here? https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9FAsJVB2g1qQlhrcF9Sd0YxSGs/view?usp=sharing

i dont want to turn my comptuer on until i get confirmation this is OK.

is it better for me to use this adapted 8-pin on the r9 290 , or the motherboard? which requires more power?

thanks!

If your psu does not have any extra 8pins, then its okay to use what you have done (in the picture).

BUT, make sure your PSU has enough juice to run the 290. Not having the extra 8pin connector either means ur PSU cant handle it, or it is an older model.
