Hello, I have searched high and low for the fix to this issue, and am finally starting to understand this problem. my board is an asus M5A99X evo r2.0, and my CPU is an AMD FX-8350. I have used 2 types of ram(not at the same time), and have also used another mobo which had the same issue! the ram i just bought is Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB Kit (2x4GB) 1866MHz DDR3 CL10 DIMM (HX318C10FK2/8) The old type was KHX1600C903K2/8GX

In the bios it reads that I have max memory of 4080mb.. I believe before I fiddled with the ram it read 4096 I believe, which is odd to say the least.. no matter what i do i cannot get the ram into duel channel mode with 2x4gb sticks, I read it was a bit tricky to get ram, paired with the 8350, to run 1866 in duel channel so I have tried 1600 as mentioned before, sense I started with 1600 type ram. i tried setting timings and voltages a small amount, however i don't want to play with the voltage without a guide. Windows 7 64 bit reads that I have 8gb with only (3.90 usable), CPU-ID and the mobo both show that 8gb are installed, however the bios also says the max memory is again only 4080mb. Any ideas?

Check in MSCONFIG (go to START, type MSCONFIG then hit enter in the search box, when the menu comes up, click on Boot tab, then Advanced and make sure the MaxMemory box is unchecked...If no joy there try raising the DRAM voltage + 0.05 and the CPU/NB voltage the same amount

I fixed it. I pulled the cpu and I had one pin smashed down ;( After carefully bending it upright everything runs good now.
