i will try to explain in detail.

I currently live in Japan, here to get an internet connection you need to do a contract with 2 companies, the one who gives the line and the ISP company.

Im not a network geek (in fact i could say im a noob regarding networking) but i do consider myself well above average when it comes about computers and technology

I have 100mb VDSL internet connected through PPPoE, the line company provided me the modem and the ISP company provided me the router, everything worked fine except that I had no wifi

The ISP company router is of course capable of sending wifi signal but its blocked... they are already charging me a monthly fee for their router rental and if I want to enable wifi I have to pay an extra monthly fee!!! WTF!?

So I decided to buy my own router and after a lot of research I decided to buy the Netgear WNDR4300 router which was fairly cheap, has open source firmware support, 3 years warranty (in Japan), English language interface and is enough for my requirements.

I know there are probably better options for a router but not every model/company is available in Japan and I wanted something with English interface. Netgear only has few models available to the Japanese market.

Ok... So i got the router, connected it to the modem, a browser tab opened and started the configuration, it detected my company uses PPPoE and asked me for my username and password. Everything worked fine and in 10 minutes i was connected to the internet

My connection is stable (I have been testing it for 4 days), no drops. and I can surf the net without problems. The problem is that my download speed is much slower!! I have made many speedtest tests and in average i get less than 10Mb/s download and 2 or 3 Mb/s upload! This is unacceptable! Sometimes i can get as little as 3 Mb/s download!

I have tried doing speedtest tests at late night (1 am, 2 am) and I can get better results like 30 mb/s download.

I still have the ISP company router and I have test both routers with 10 min difference between the tests and the results are completely different. 60mb/s download vs 20mb/s download. from speedtest

I get on average with the ISP router between 50 and 60 mb/s download and late night like 80mb/s download.

I download stuff all the time, so this is unacceptable.

I dont usually posts in forums, but I have tried everything I can think of and I have searched the internet without an anwwer... I got tired... Probably it has something to do with the DNS?

I tried getting into the ISP company router configuration but everything is in Japanese... I did used google translate but I cannot seem to find something worth noting, it seems everything is set to "Auto" and so is my netgear router but the speed difference is very noticeable.

Any ideas?

Other problem I have (but this is regarding the wifi) is that my Japanese Note 3 Android 4.4.2 is having problems getting internet. It never gets disconnected from the router but I lose internet access randomly even if it says its connected to the router. Internet access only works sometimes, I have found that if I turn off the wifi from the Note 3 and turn it on again (connecting again to the router) the internet works again but the it will lose internet access again randomly (even if it says its connected to the router).... I dont think the problem is the router as my Wii U, 3ds and Macbook Pro dont seem to have this problem, and i dont think its my Note 3 problem as I can get it connected to the Wifi from my university without any problems...... its something between them but i cant understand what... the router its using WPA/WPA2 PSK security

30 mb/s isn't a slow internet. I get 5 mb/s.... No reasons to complain. If I had 30mb/s then I wouldn't even have bothered to start this topic, hell I don't even complain with 5 mb/s.
