Wanting to buy a new gpu, confused on PCI E connections

I'm currently using a gaming pc with an I5-3570K, GTX660, 8gb RAM, and an Asrock H61M HVS motherboard, which as far as i can tell has two 6 pin pci e plugins, and my current card is in the PCI E 2.0 slot. I really need to upgrade since my current GPU isn't doing so hot lately, so i'm trying to get a GTX970. I typically trust gigabyte above others, but they only have 2 choices in 970's, one of which is over 12 inches long due to having 3 fans so i don't know if it'll fit in my kind of small mid-tower NZXT source case (not sure what the model is, i think it's 200 or 210) considering my gtx660 is only around 10.5 inches and is already butting up against the bundle of wires pretty closely.

Luckily the other gigabyte gtx970 is a quite small card

But i'm worried about it being compatible with my system, since the site says "System power supply requirement: 400W(with one 8-pin external power connectors)" and as far as i can tell from looking i have 2 PCI E 6 pin connectors and no 8 pin connector. I have a 500 watt PSU and the site says it only needs 400 so i guess i'm good there, but i'm a bit worried about what to do to connect it since it only has ONE 8 pin connector and apparently even using a 6 pin to 8 pin adaptor i would still only get 75 watts from the connector and 75 from the PCI E slot right? So am i in trouble here or would an adaptor work? And would this smaller gtx970 give less performance? After shelling out over $350 for a card there's no way i'd be able to afford a new motherboard or PSU to get an 8 pin and i'm pretty terrible with tinkering with wiring and stuff so i wouldn't dream of trying to rig up an 8 pin myself if it's not plug and play easy.

Oh really!?!? That's fantastic! I kinda thought that since it only had a suggested PSU requirement of 400 rather than 500 like the bigger ones that the card would use less wattage and i might therefore get away with just the 150watts from the pcie 2.0 (75) + the 6 pin with adaptor (75) = 150, but i wasn't quite sure so i figured i'd ask people's opinions on here.

Has anybody had experience with this card? Would it be a good choice to upgrade from my 660? The fact that it's for ATX mobo's wouldn't be a problem since mine is a bigger one would it?

When i saw 970's on sale for ~$350 i figured i could sell my 660 for like $80-100 since it's hardly been used and my mobo wouldn't support SLI thus making it pretty affordable, especially since a 770 or 780 would probably require me to upgrade my PSU and spend more cash.

So is this all true? any other opinions about whether my setup will work with this card? Does it definitely come with the 6 pin to 8 pin adaptor? i'd be screwed if i bought it and had to upgrade something else since i literally won't have a dime left to spend after getting this gpu.
