Now this is harder, the GTX 970 is great in both versions. Gigabyte G1 Gaming is larger (312mm) than the (269mm) MSI, also the Giga has a better cooling and backplate. The MSI card has that 0dB tech, because fans only start spinning when the board goes over 60°C. This is more like a preference decision (or case size decision, if the Gigabyte card doesn't fit), and preference related to the details.

It all goes down to the slots and features that you need/want . Both motherboards are of very high quality, and would allow you to overclock well, but they have certain features that you may or may not want. Try comparing these motherboards side by side online. See which features attract you the most. It could be better onboard sound, better BIOS, better LAN controller, I don't know. But I thought Asus' Sonic Radar thing was kinda cool.

Asus z97 maximus vii hero is an amazing motherboard for its price, as the Msi z97 gaming 5 is a good motherboard too. I'd get the Asus mobo, it's a great board with lots of features and top quality. I personally only don't have one because in my coutry the prices, for any computer part, are ridiculously higher than everywhere else, but for other countries, this board is the deal, a beast, amazing especially for overclocking.

Hi and welcome to Tom's forum.

I would also go with the ASUS, but, if you want to save a little money (which I don't think so) the MSI is a solid board and 50 bucks more cheap.

I would suggest you take a look of liquid cooling like H100i or similars, that NH-D14 is one of the most excellent coolers in the market but also need a lot of space and can be a problem with your RAM (high profile RAM) or even the board.

Good good, didn't see. Well, that should be your decision time, because the Asus one is superior, for +43€/10€, but the MSI boards are good boards aswell, so it goes into that full/empty wallet question.

I was just looking at the Asus Maximus VII Hero Intel Z97 and I am just wondering if it would run the Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) out of the box?

Thank you!

I don't want to appear to hijack this thread or anything but what RAM would you opt for? I am torn between corsair and G.skill (because I want red sticks). Think 2400mhz would be okay on this board?
