Im switching two 250 gb hdds in raid 0 with a new 240 gb ssd and keeping the two for media storage. I would really like to keep all my files and installed programs so a straight up clone would have been the easiest but i see now its not so easy. Now i plan on buying a new motherboard on cyber monday as the current one doesnt have sata3 ports and im going to finally upgrade from vista to windows 7! Any chance these other upgrades might make the hard drive switch easier?

Solution
Not really. Cloning a raid array is not impossible, just need the right tools.

I would give Clonezilla a try. Their tutorials are pretty good for most situations. In this case you will need to move any non-critical files off of the drives and shrink the volume to under that of the SSD's formatted size.

So any idea what would be the best way to go about this? Idk if I'm way off base here but I was thinking of making a back up of the raid drive then installing the new ssd with a fresh install of Vista and restoring everything with my back up. Is that something that would work? And would I still have all my files and installed programs?
