I bought the AMD athlon x4 860k processor for my msi fm2-a78M-E35 motherboard.
You can see my full computer on this DUTCH site:
http://gamepc.nl/game-pc-budget?tab=configuratie#samenstellen
it is all on the default only change i made to this computer is that i have a 750 ti gaming graphics card in here aswell.
So this is the problem: i installed my cpu with extreme care, using a anti static wristband.
I installed with the golden corner on the other golden corner.
No pressure, dropped in, everything correct.
Put on the stock cooler.
I then tryed to turn my computer on:
what works:
The fans in my computer turn on, even the one on my cpu.
the lights in my case turned on.
The light indicating that the computer is buzy((ram usage?) not sure) turns on shortly.
What doesn't work:
The screen stays in the sleeping mode.
upon giving the screen power it does show the logo meaning it does work.
When the computer is turned on however it stays in sleeping mode (black screen orange light on the button.)
I have a mouse and keyboard with lights in it.
these do not turn on.
The mouse seems to work however, the red lazer on the bottom does light up.
I do have the old cpu, and i can put this back in again, but it's late now, i wont do that right now.
So what is wrong? did i miss a step?
I will be actively looking at this post, meaning if you react within a short time i will be able to respond.

Solution
Hello... The important thing is your new and Old CPU is booting to the BIO's. But remember also your New BIO's has new settings Now.
The important setting first to look at...
1) AHCI or IDE mode settings need to be changed, for Your BOOT Drive, the proper communication MODE has changed for your Drive.
Always save the setting and exit your BIOs for a re-start.

2) What Windows version do you have?

Seems mystifying doesn't it? Well, you can get power to your fans and board, but no screen, happens a lot. It likely means the system isn't passing POST (power on self test). You should hear '1' beep if it posts correctly, display or no display. No beep=no post. (if pc speaker is connected) On the other hand if you are getting more than 1 beep, you can look that up in the motherboard manual, it will tell you what's wrong. Also you can try using the onboard graphic card instead to see if any difference, if not and monitor works, then need to find out why not posting. Use 1 stick of RAM,if possible, and ensure nothing plugged in you don't 'need', including extra USB devices. I'm betting the old CPU will still post, in which case the new CPU isn't configured correctly for the motherboard, and you may need a BIOS update. I know it's a nuisance, but putting the old CPU back is the fastest way to see if that is the problem. O, also reset the BIOS jumper, or pull the battery out for a few minutes, and put it back, clearing CMOS may kick start default settings and work, or perhaps kickstart it into seeing the new CPU.

I do not hear any beebs with my speakers plugged in.
I am using one stick of ram by default anyways.
I am no pro, so "clearing CMOS may kick start default settings and work, or perhaps kickstart it into seeing the new CPU. " means nothing to me?
I did see a post about checking if it boots by seeing if the caps lock key lights up, it does not.
Also i saw a lot of people saying that if i pull out my power and hold on for 30 seconds and then turning it on again should work? it did not for me.
Another question, how do i find out what bios i need for my cpu, and how do i install/download it.

Update: i updated my bios to version 5 which is the latest.
After restarting my computer it did not launch on the old cpu, it went into system recovery or something, tryed that did not work, i then tryed a normall start that did not work.
I tryed putting in the new cpu and it also didnt work.
I can acces the bios, no problem it recognises my cpu normally.
But does not start.
It did say that on the site it needed the bios version 3 instead of the latest one which i downloaded. I imagined that it should have just worked normally with the latest one. But apparently not??
Now what do i do?

Hello... What didn't start?> Windows/your hardrive OS? your BIO;s will be fine..... leave the one you got in it.... You may need to configure your hardware setting in your BIO's...
1 ) ARE you getting into the bIOs with both CPU;s now?
2 ) ARE the CPU Models being read correctly?

Windows does not start, quick blue screen followed by a restart, i can acces the bios just fine. It reads the new as well as the old cpu no problem. It reads the bios as the new bios that i downloaded.

You'll get Blue Screens when upgrading the CPU. Windows is trying to use a driver for a CPU that doesn't exist, as it's been replaced by another one. If you are lucky you may be able to boot to safe mode and windows will install the driver for it, If can't get into safe mode, windows needs to reinstall it's hardware abstraction layer, which means you'll need to either repair or reinstall.

If you can boot into BIOS and windows is Blue Screening, Windows has a problem that needs to be fixed. Can you boot to safe mode? If not, you'll need to reinstall fresh. If so, it is fixable

I got it to work! I switch the sata setting in my bios and it launched!
It did get quite hot, so now all i need to do is get some new thermal paste, because i was swapping the cpu multiple times.
Also the resolution was a bit messed up and it didnt connect to internet. But i'll look into that when i get the new paste, so far thanks a lot guys.
