I had an external hard drive from a prior computer connected via USB to a new Windows 7 computer. I disconnected it to reconfigure my setup, and the drive is no longer recognized. It makes a sound when connected but doesn't show up in My Computer. It does show up in Disc Management but I can't access it. Any ideas?

It sounds like your external hard drive has died, about the only thing you can try is taking it apart and using the hard-drive in an external enclosure or putting in your computer to see if you can access the data. There are more advanced steps you can take to recover the hard-drive but I'm not sure if you want to mess with them as they are dependent on your skills and how much you want your data back (results still not 100%).

It had one, "E" but nothing else. I changed it to "H" but nothing else changed. It still says: Disk 1, removable (H), no media.
