My friend has played consoles all his life and has played on PC before. He is interested in the ultra graphics for BF4 because it's his favorite and I'd like to know the cheapest possible way he could get that ultra with 60fps.

The 290 will be faster and the i5 will perform better in most games.

Btw, Mantle is not going to give you an extra 30 FPS. On most systems, you'll get an extra few FPS, if that.

Actually it gives you more than a few because bf4 uses so much CPU that when you turn on mantle its basically using my gpu than cpu so it takes the stress of the cpu

Mantle is geared more toward lower end processors, it's not going to make much difference with a high-end processor. You can see a review here.

I've seen benchmarks showing an average gain of 10 FPS, but even that isn't much.

I kinda want mantle for my friend because it's what future games will be based on.

Don't listen to coolboy. Everyone knows AMD CPUs are absolutely, undeniably inferior to Intel CPUs for gaming. Stick with Intel for your CPU and go with the R9 290. Frag's build is solid.

Hes focused more on bf4 and bf4 is hardware partners with AMD so hes gonna have a better expirence with AMD

He may be playing BF4 now but he will eventually move on to other games. Also, AMDs GPUs have a slight edge in BF4 due to their partnership but their CPUs see no benefit and are terrible all around.

you wont see a big boost between intel and amd intel has 2-3 more fps than amd usally with their expensive ass cpus
