Hi everyone!

Two days ago my PC just shut itself off.. upon reboot I got the error "CPU fan error, press F1 to continue". I did, checked bios and saw that the CPU temp started at around 40 celsius and within 2-4 minutes reached 90c! I restarted and got the same error plus "CPU temperature overheating error" I think it said. The fan connected to the Antec Kuhler is spinning and is faced in the right direction.

All components in my PC are about 3 years old. Upon inspection I saw that the radiator was full with dust, I thoroughly cleaned the whole PC from dust. There was a lot of it since I cleaned it the last time about 6 months ago. I even removed the thermal paste on the CPU and re-applied some new.. the error is still there. The CPU reaches about 90c every time I start it up and gets very slow to the point of not being possible to do anything so I just turn it off.

What can I do about this? Do I need a new water cooler or CPU? Might I have connected something wrong when I built it 3 years ago?

Thanks in advance!

Yup, that did it! I removed the water cooler and installed the stock air cooler that came with the i7 processor and it did indeed fix the problem. The PC started perfectly fine without any error message and the temperature of all the 4 cores are now around a steady 35c (according to RealTemp)! Thanks for the help!
