Hello all,

I'm building a computer for gaming. I'm new in the gaming arena and have no, clue what games I'll be playing. Following is my setup:

Intel i7-4790 K
Asus Maximus VII Hero
G.Skill Trident X Series 16GB 2400 Mhz (2x8GB)
ASUS ROG Striker 4GB
Seasonic 660W 80 Plus Platinum
Samsung EVO 840 120GB (OS)
Windows 7
Corsair H100i
Fractal Design Arc Midi with window

I'm planning on using a old HDD which is SATA 6 for installing games and misc. data. I'm also leaning towards buying another SSD, and dedicating it to games only.

I'm hoping that the above setup will get me going and if finances permit I may add another video card or possibly install a custom water loop.

The reason I want to go with 2x8GB is that I can expand the RAM later if need be, however from what I've read 16 GB is more than plenty for gaming???

So what are your thoughts?

Thanks a lot.

Omar

16GB is overkill if gaming alone. Also you dont really need another SSD for gaming unless you just have to have one as there really is not much different in load times. i7 for gaming is overkill so save some money and get the i5 4690k. What GPU are you using I see its an ASUS 4GB but not the actual model.

Seems like the 4790K, Maximus Hero along with 16GB RAM is a very popular choice :p Also, what GPU are you planning on getting? If this is a PC dedicated to gaming alone, then you don't really need the 4790k and 16GB of RAM.

Also, I'm assuming that you are getting the GTX 760??

Sorry folks. The GPU is Asus Striker GTX 760 4GB. All of you feel free to have a laugh at me. The components I pick are red/black. to coordinate with motherboard. From my limited research I thought the components were compatible. So far the total cost is adding to $1600. All from newegg.com. One of the reasons I'm going for sorta overkill is to have the system for two or three years, possibly more. Also I made a change I'm going for Samsung 850 Pro 128 SSD instead of 840 EVO 128 GB.

For 1600 you can do better, this fits with the black and red theme.
