Two computers. One computer is a low-specs one. The other computer is an i7, 16 Gb RAM, etc.

For days, I've tried to download & install Windows Update Kb3000850, on those two computers. I'm getting nowhere.

I've replaced Avast antivirus with another brand.

I've disabled antivirus and firewall.

After download & install, the Update wrecked ClassicShell, and other programs. The Task Manager would no longer open. I could not switch off my computers. In other words, a mess.

I managed, with luck, to restore the system.

I then decided to try again.

The best, it's getting to four per cent of the download. Beyond that, nothing.

Do my computers really need Windows Update Kb3000850 ??

I thank you all in advance.

Refreshed language packs
Defence-in-depth security and Schannel hardening
Support for newer hardware (boot order allowance, SD card improvements, USB debugging)
Improved Web Services for Devices (WSD) printer support during network switches
Performance and reliability improvements in clustered virtual machine mission-critical environments
Improved manageability
Additional hardware support (devices that have third-party disk encryption software enabled can now be upgraded to Windows 8.1 more easily)
if nothing in there rings a bell, I simlpy skip that update. It's gonna be included in some cumulative update in the future and will get installed effortlessly anyway.

Thank you all, for your kind answers.

Fingers crossed, my computers work very well and, also, I'm not an expert at all. So, I'll avoid messing up with Command Prompts—I'm too ignorant for that. However, sooner or later, I'll have to learn doing that.

My computers were and are set to download & install Windows Updates automatically.

Kb3000850 came as an optional, so the choice was mine and, as I said, my knowledge of computers is very basic. So far, I downloaded & installed all Windows Updates, because we users are always told to do that for security reasons.

I guess I'll make an exception this time, and I'll ignore Kb3000850.

THANK YOU VERY, VERY MUCH, TO YOU ALL, FOR YOUR ADVICE.
