A78-e45 with a10 6800k, motherboard has bios version it shipped with. (keep thinking newer bios version might fix but worried about screwing something up) I cannot seem to find any way to manually oc this APU. Any thoughts. And i have the hyper 212 evo. oc genie oc,s it to 4.22 but i dont use it becuase i have researched to much uncertainty with software oc's.

Solution
To clarify, even if you had access to the right settings in BIOS you're going to hit the wall as soon as you have to push the voltages up - probably around the 4.4ghz mark on that mobo, and your A10 has a 4.3ghz turbo anyway.

I'm sorry I didn't see your thread around thanksgiving, I could have saved you a lot of time :(

Yes it is msi and no its a custom build. However i have tried oc genie a couple times and some times it bsods, sometimes it simply doesnt accept oc genies settings and the ine time it did work it simply clocked it to what the APU called as turbo core mhz. the results have varied to much with oc genie to trust its accuracy. I tried afterburner but the setting never seem to stick and when it did one time, i checked bios and it showed now change. cant find a way to manually oc. I would use afterburner to toy with setting but following that, i would like to change them in the bios but no bueno

and i agree with you on taking manual control and just going with the multiplier but no matter what i do, the option for doing anything with the multiplier is greyed out and wont do anything. Just sits there all smug and wont let me fiddle with it lol.

hey wisecracker, im not at the computer now but as far as turning turbocore off. i did turn it off last night but never went back to check to see if manual oc opened up. Is turning the turbo core off the key to opening up the option to oc?

So i continued to mess around and still nothing, it simply will not let me have control of the settings. alot of good a 6800(K) does if not to oc. lol. I am at a loss and i have spent hours on it along with web searching and still nothing

I still have yet to find a way to overclock this processor. No matter what I disable or enable, the option for manual overclock never becomes available. A little annoying seeing the results others are having with oc'ing this cpu. Anyone else having this problem?

You have one of the most budget of budgetey A78 boards and you want to OC... sorry dude not gonna happen. The OC genie's 100mhz increase is probably all you would ever get on that board.

You need a good quality A88x board, at least then you would get some vrm cooling. But I would advise against spending money on a new motherboard just to get a 10-12% increase in cpu speed, probably best to make do with what you have.

I appreciate the answer, and you are correct, it was a budget build, but I did go with msi for their quality. Kinda like picking the least rotten fruit to eat, it still tastes good, just not nearly as crisp as getting one off the tree.

one question lucoTF, do you think that updating the bios to the latest could change the scenario for overclocking, ive heard people have updated the bios and had a large improvement over a large spectrum of areas

Nothing wrong with MSI boards, they had a bad rep a couple years back but they're a perfectly solid brand imo

Are you using the A10's integrated graphics? what speed is your ram? Windows 7 or Windows 8?

I've heard that the e35 version of your board is voltage-locked, so the e45 may be as well. But I thought you had tried a bios update already?

well the only thing is I only play bf4 and I reserve playing to once a week on Friday nights as I have a wife and kid so I make sure they come first. So as it is I am getting around 59 fps consistently on high settings so I cant really justify a new board. Oh and no on the integrated graphics, I have the MSI 750 ti oc edition. And no I haven't updated bios. As everything is working smooth as butter, I don't want to take the change on bios update.

I built the budge comp after selling my beast due to the fact that I was only using it once a week. I had sold my old 965 be computer for 700$ and bought a computer from a friend for 1000$ that he had just built for 3000$ (gaming beast) I love it when people are hard up for money, that's where the deals are lol, so I turned around and sold it a week later for 1800$. 800$ profit in a week aint bad. So I built my current system and banked the other 800$

so with 59 fps constant, I really don't need to oc, but you know how it is, if I have components that are supposed to be able to be overclocked (even If I don't actually oc) I want the ability to.

Yeah I hear you :) and that is a fine budget build you got there - I don't play bf4 but I'm on bf3 most weekends too

yeah I have been a bf player since the get go so bf4 was just natural. Man has it had its issues though. Glad they have worked out most of the bugs. Its a hell of a lot of fun to play now. Once in a while ill throw on a little bf3 but primarily bf4. I did get titan fall and that was fun for like a month and then just got boring as crap. I really enjoy the levolution and dynamic weather in bf4 though
