Hello, I have been really interested in the Oculus Rift and I've been dying to get my hands on one but I have a few questions first. Firstly, on Amazon the DK2 is ~$800 but on the Oculus site it is only $350 so obviously buying it from the site would be a better choice however on the site it only says you can pre-order it but I thought the DK2 was already out is it not? Secondly, I'm not into development or anything I just want it to play games so my question is does it work on all games? For instance, could I plug it in and start playing L4D2 in VR or any other game for that matter? If anyone knows a thing or two about the Oculus Rift please help me out because I'd love to try it out and experience VR.
Thank you!

Hello there, I tried an Occulus Rift at a gaming festival called Insomnia, I believe you can only use the device with compatible games, but there are some people who do make mods, here is a list of some demos/games/resources that you can use to check it out; http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/2lvk09/update_unofficial_list_of_dk2_demos_and_resources/ Alsothe Oculus Rift DK2 is available for purchase but not as a consumer product.

Don't fall for the hype, the oculus rift sdk 2 is faaar from ready for prime time, it is a nightmare to get working in the first place and even more of a pain to get working with games, also the resolution is atrocious that close to your eyes. Also note that of 3 people I've had try this 1 got sick 30 seconds into the Tuscany demo, two made it through 5 minutes of Tuscany, of those two one got sick about 1 minute into Half Life 2 and one got sick 5 minutes into Half Life 2. Of the 3 people two never got motion sickness in real life, whether cars, trains, planes, helos, etc. and it most certainly does not work on all games, for most you will have to get a third party program with custom configs and often this does not even work. This thing would be a train wreck if released in anywhere close to its current state. Nvidia 3d vision sounds like a far wiser choice at this time.

I've been following DK2 so far and while you can't just plug in and play ANY game with it, VorpX is a mod that supports quite a few games and puts them in a format so that they may operate on the Rift. I'm not sure if L4D2 is on the list of supported games but feel free to look. Also DK2 is already out but there is almost a month of wait time during shipping. If people are using Google Cardboard and Samsung Gear VR with no motion sickness then it should be fine on the Rift DK2.

Don't give false information regarding motion/simulation sickness. People do get sick with the Rift. And some will with any VR headset. I had another person try it last week and they got sick as well, so that brings me up to 4/4 people getting sick.

loki you can clearly go to youtube and watch people doing all sorts of things with DK2 with no sickness, motion sickness will directly reflect your hardware.
If you have a rig that cant handle the rift then you will have chops which cause motion sickness, so clearly DK2 requires tweaking and a nice rig. But at this point DK2 is useless since Crescent Bay has been tweaked and we are extremely close to the CV1 release so ill hold on to my wallet and be first in line on preorder day.
