Hi i'm thinking about getting these components for my next pc build and wondered if they are balanced well - please note I am planning on doing a slight CPU overclock

CPU - i5 4690k
GPU - EVGA gtx 970 OC
MOBO - Gigabyte Z97P-D3
PSU - EVGA 500W 80+ bronze
Cooler - Hyper 212 EVO

Other stuff such as RAM and storage I already have. Is the motherboard good enough for OCing? - thinking around 4.4ghz hopefully

Solution
gigabyte Z97x-ud5h has a 6+2 digital pwm.
gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 5 has a 8 digital pwm.
They are similar motherboards as far as overclocking is concerned: Good capacitor and inductor rating.
Both are very good choice for overclock.

But Gigabyte Z97P-D3 should be a better option than Asus Z97-K for overclocking. Gigabyte Z97P-D3 should be ok for a mild overclock. Your original build is very good. Cannot achieve max overclock but i dont think its a deal breaker at all.

Hmm, what overclock do you think i'd get out of the Z97P-D3 because I could get it for a very good price and I am on a pretty tight budget? Thanks for the quick reply

would an Asus Z97-K be a better option for OCing?

You can get a gigabyte ud5h z97 for $129 also. The ud5h doesn't say 'gaming' on it, but it has an intel nic as well as the killer (the intel is more desirable, some of the gaming series only have the qualcomm killer 2200). It also has 6 digital power phases and 12 ferrite chokes. That 'gaming' version only has 4 digital phases and 4 ferrite chokes. The ud5h would be better for overclocking and power management.

In addition, I'd check into a bigger psu, in the 650-750 range. 500w is the recommended min for the gtx 970 and leaves you with no wiggle room. Better to not be pressed right to the max.

Yeah the UD5H is around £160 here for some stupid reason, whereas the Z97P-D3 is £100 cheaper
