I recently bought a Laptop for my school works, I really love my Laptop, but it has one problem for me... it has no VGA output!
I bought a Dell inspiron 15.6'', AMD A6, 1To HDD, Touchscreen, 8Gb Ram, windows 8.1 (600$, bought new 3 weeks ago). It has only a HDMI output

I need sometime to use projectors for class presentations, and also I love to connect to a PC monitor to get extended view to work...
So I found 2 types of converter or adaptor that claims to be HDMI to VGA... the first type is around 30$
(example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812400393&cm_re=hdmi_to_vga-_-12-400-393-_-Product )
And the other one is way more expensive, which can be over 100$
(Example: http://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/startechcom-hdmi-to-vga-video-converter-with-audio/6000023805300 )

I wanted to buy a small adpator, the one near 30$, and a seller told me it would not work and I needed the big converter, because the digital signal that my laptop has will not be converted to analog, or something like that...

What could would work for me? does these small adaptor can work with my laptop? or do I really need to buy the expensive converter?
Thank you!

Solution
The PROBLEM is that a powered HDMI output is required for the first adapter to work properly. I have no idea how you find out that information.

Otherwise you need one with an AC adapter.

Turned out i bought a Belkin adaptor of 40$, and it's working perfectly on a 21 inch monitor, on a 42 inch acl screen and on a projector. Good enough for me, i'm happy!
