Quick question about building your own PC - Can I transfer from alienware?

Hello all!

I currently have an alienware desktop PC (aura is the model I believe) which I bought a year ago. This was before I really got into trying to learn the individual components/setups that you can do for gaming. the system came with 2 smallers graphics cards in sli (gtx 660). I wanted better cards, so i bought GTX 780s. Unfortunately, they barely next to each other because the system has a micro motherboard, which I didn't even know there was a difference at first. The cards are up against each other which I've never had problems with but I know they cant operate at full performance because the temps on them are going to be higher.

That aside, I would like to build my own PC (with the help of a friend) and use a full size gigabyte motherboard (I haven't purchased one yet, but if you have any recommendations that would be appreciated as well!).

My question to use is this, in general are any components from pre-built PCs transferable to a new case. For instance, I know I can transfer the video cards, memory, etc. but what about the liquid cooling system or power supply? Do you generally have to go buy new ones? Any recommendations on cases?

Thank you!

Depends on the case, normally the liquid cooling system has hoses cut to exact lengths so unless you get new hoses then you can't transfer it. You would of had to drain it anyway so.... Same for the power supply except it's the wires not the hoses, just check the length before you try anything, also check to make sure it has all the power terminations that you need.

You should be able to transfer any hardware over. Really, for what you want to do, all you need is a case, motherboard that is compatible with your CPU, and supports SLI, and probably a copy of Windows. If the water cooler is just a 120mm or 240mm self contained unit, you should be able to reuse that as well.

Case, I would say a Corsair 450d would be a good fit.

Thanks! I will go with that corsair tower.

I have another quick question for you if that's ok. Below are 2 mobos i am considering. Is there a big difference between the two, or would either be ok (for my 2 video cards, the processor, and the case you mentioned)? I'd like to go with gigabyte if possible. ( gigabyte mobo 1 )

gigabyte mobo 2

power supply - 750 watts (alien stock)
GPU - 2x MSI GTX 780s
CPU - Intel I7 3820
Memory - DDR3 16 GB
