Hi, I'm new in the PC world and was curious about a graphics card. I'm on a really tight budget but I found the Radeon HD 7770. The review on it seemed good here:

http://www.pcworld.com/product/1197906/radeon-hd-7770.html

I also found the card on the AMD website, but those look different than the one pictured on the pc world review. There seem to be a lot of HD 7770's and I'm kind of confused. I found the card here:
http://www.ascendtech.us/ati-radeon-hd7770-2gb-dvi-hdmi-dp-vc_i_vc2gbahd77702gb.aspx

but that one never says it is ddr5 and has slightly different ports. It also says the card is ATI brand? If you go here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Dell-Alienware-AMD-Radeon-HD-7770-2GB-GDDR5-Graphic-Card-PCI-E-3-0-DRNTY/221605011872?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D25216%26meid%3D4ab9ea4964b141e69b4dad289af145f1%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D10628%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D390943634526&rt=nc

There are several sellers claiming that it's an alienware card. They also have different ports. I read on another website that the HD 7770 was rebranded as the R7 250x, but those look different also. I can't find this thing on pc parts picker, so i was a little worried about compatability. The main thing is I want to buy it from Ascend Tech it's the same card from the review. Can anybody help me make sure I'm not buying some Japanese knock off card? If the card is no good can you show me a different card with a similar price? I might just be paranoid but I thought i'd give this a shot.
Thanks!

If that 7770 is the ddr5 model then old card or not its a very very good price.
Its pretty much between the r7 250x & r7 260 performance wise.
The ddr3 version loses nearly 20% performance though & isn't worth buying IMO.
There's no listing of an ati branded one on the amd website apart from the GHz edition which has a 'GHZ' sticker on the fan - the one on that site just says radeon so I'd be wary tbh.try emailing them - it will say on the box whether its ddr3 or ddr5.
Why that site in paticular ?? That's the only decent priced card on there ,everything else is badly overpriced & what's your max budget

Edit - the product code definitely puts it as a ddr5 model & I've found one that looks the same ,same fan same ports which is a ddr5 -...

AMD creates the actual graphics chip set. They sell those to various graphic card manufacturers like ASUS, EVGA, Sapphire, XFX, etc who install the chip set onto their graphic card PCBs and attach a cooling fan/shroud. It's unlikely that two HD7770s from different manufacturers will look the same or even have the same outputs.

If you have the choice, then you should go with the newer R7-260 as opposed to the HD7770 given the same price range.

Its not an amazing card but is worth $65 imo easily.

Ok so how would I double check that? I know it's not a great card but I thought it was a good deal and I'm fine with playing games on low. My max would probably be around $80, but I'll probably go with the ascend tech one as long as it's the right card. It's also on Newegg for $90, and ebay for $70

Email ascendtech & ask them mate - it will state quite clearly on the box or manual 2gb ddr3 or 2gb ddr5.
The problem with these reference amd cards is they're mass produced for the likes of dell/HP/alienware so its hard to track part/product numbers.
If the pictures on the site were higher res you could read the text on the ram chips to see what they were but there's not enough detail.

That card is outdated and there are cards that are just as cheap in the Radeon R7 series. Look into the R7 260, 260x, or 265. Note that the 7770 is the same chip as the r7 250X, but the r7 250x will have newer VRAM and compatibility.

About nine months late to the party.
