So I'm getting prepared watching videos, reading forums, and tutorials on a step by step process of switching out from a AMD Phenom II x4 830 chip set to an Intel i7-4790k with a Asus motherboard hoping to catch a sale on the Maximus VII Hero Z97 board.

As from what I have found in this research prepping for the swap are only bits and pieces of the process so I'm hoping the Tom's Hardware community can guide me with a step by step process on how to successfully swap the hardware and get everything working again to enjoy gaming once again.

If anyone has had experience doing this before I would very much appreciate your help with a guide and everything. Also I'ma be using the stocked CPU cooler temporary until I can purchase a Corsair Hydro Series H100i, below I'll note current hardware to new one:

Current Hardware

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 830
Cooler: Stocked
Motherboard: N-Alvorix-RS880-uATX (Alvorix)
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro (64-bit)

New Hardware

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790k
Cooler: Stocked
Motherboard: Asus (currently looking for Z97 Hero)
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro (64-bit)

If there is anymore information you need from me please let me know and I'll do my best to provide the answers.

Help switching - as in keeping your hard drive and os intact while changing out cpu's and chipsets? That I don't know. Maybe it's similar to switching from older to newer intel since it's still a platform change over. If there's a good program that does it clean (and doesn't involve a drive wipe, reformat and reinstall) I'd be happy to know too. I get sick of reinstalling windows every time I turn around lol.

Not much to know. Pull the old, put in the new. Connect all of the power, turn on (after crossing fingers) and do a clean install of you os. Install all motherboard drivers and vga and then update to the latest off of asus's website. Did I answer you question? Power supply, graphics card and memory?

No I don't mind reformatting my hard drive but I just want clear step process in getting everything working perfectly I know the basics about installing the hardware that's not really the issue. The reason I ask this is because when you swap motherboards and chip sets at times you have to set up your BIOS to make sure nothing is beyond what can be handled, make sure your hard drives can be recognize, your fans are set in there correct settings, make sure the CPU temperature is doing fine, etc. I also want to know if I have to install the hardware before placing it or after placing it and booting, Which type of reformat I'ma have to do (can i do a simple automatic repair or do i need to do a complete reset, etc.) This is why I'm asking for step by step guide just to be perfectly clear I'ma be doing it the correct way.

PSU: 700W Corsair GS series
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GBs @ 1600MHz DDR3
Graphics: Nvidia Geforce GTX 660 Ti (This is a card straight from Nvidia, not a third party card)

Also will like to note that it could be a simple guide as long as its detailed or a link to a great guide/video on the full process I will also be thankful to get :)
