How much does a switch from 1080p to 1440p affect vRam?

Currently I'm hitting 2.4gb of vRam usage in my super-modded Skyrim at a resolution of 1920 x 1200. I'm rebuilding my system for 2k, but my GTX 970, like my current 680, is 4gb. Would the switch to the higher resolution push me over my vRam limit?

Solution
It will be the same in whatever application you used plus the pixel increase of about 78% (3686400/2073600). Each pixel will have all the same settings on it if all you do is increase the resolution. Vram requirements won't increase that much, though, if you turn down settings when you increase the resolution. For instance, if you decrease the anti-aliasing, the image will still look good unless you're 1440p screen is significantly larger than your 1080p screen.
