I have a i7 930 Bloomfield that I OC to a stable 3.8Ghz. I have 2 3GB EVGA 780's in SLI & 24gb ddr3 gskill pc3-16000 triple channel ram clocked at about 1450Mhz. Asus P6X58D mobo. 27" ASUS ROG with G-sync. Is it worth it for me to upgrade to Haswell & z97? Is Haswell-E & x99 with DDR4 worth it??? Can I use my triple channel memory with a dual channel mobo without penalty? It's a gaming rig only with some seldom general use.

no the x99 platform isnt worth it at the price and you are on the cusp of seeing some really good gains. if you could get a decent board and a 4790k i think it would be worth your while. And maybe you can find another stick of similar speed ram and run it in dual channel. otherwise it might force it into single depending on the board.

Thanks again for the help all. I got it done and installed. Booted up and I about to install the drivers. Do I install the chipset driver? Also, do I need to flash update the Bio. I have version .908 and I saw somewhere that I need version 1008 for my 4790k to work properly. Please advise. Thanks again and Happy Thanksgiving.

Thanks. It's been an issue free upgrade so far and I can't wait to see the results. I know my bench makes will improve but I just hope it does what I hope for with my gaming. Nervous about bios update. Never did one and I do want to fry the board.

Will do. Last question, I promise. I am looking at the specs for the 4790k and the compatible memory shows ddr3-1333/1600. Right now I am using my triple channel g skill 24gb 1600 that I had. no issues so far, no games played yet. I am only using 16gb right now. I ordered 32gb of g skill trident x ddr3 2400 pc3 19200. Will I have an issue? Will i not get the full potential from the ram?
