NZXT Phantom 530 Fan Hub?

I recently bought the NZXT Phantom 530 and I'm having trouble getting the fan controller to work.
The fan controller isn't working when connected to the PSU with the molex connector.
I've tested the fans individually by connecting them to my motherboard and they work fine.
I also tested a separate fan with a molex connector to see if it was a problem with my PSU and the fan worked fine.
So from what I can see the PSU and fans have no problems. Any ideas on what might be the problem?
Also when I was first putting my parts in the case i tested the fan controller and it worked fine for a brief time, I'm thinking somewhere along the way I might have short circuited it or something?

Solution
I'd recommend getting a four dollar Y splitter and splitting the single chassis fan header into two signals. Use one signal for the rear exhaust fan at the upper rear of the case and the other to connect to the signal input on the hub, if that is in fact what it is for.

The fan controller is connected to the fan hub which is meant to connect to the PSU with the molex. Sadly I can't get power to the fans that way and have to plug them into the motherboard itself.

My motherboard is an ASUS P8 H61-M and only has one 3pin fan port

Something has to connect to the motherboard to monitor temps in order to control fan speed or does that unit use temp probes? Or is it STRICTLY manual fan speeds? Looks to me like the fan hub is supposed to connect via the middle connector on the hub, to the three pin header on your motherboard. Otherwise it would have no way to monitor temperature in order to increase or decrease the fan signal. That' probably why it isn't working.
