Helllo..
I'm building a new pc and I want to get a gtx 980 but im not sure if i should get the asus strix, msi twin frozr or gigabyte g1 gaming. i personally trust asus but its clock boost (1279) is lower than msi and g1's one (1317) and it is more expensive by 80$ in Australia. I was wondering how much clock speed matters, which one has better performance, build quality and cooling and what you would recommend.

For Motherboard also I want to know between Asus z97-A and extreme 4 which one is better and what you recommend as well.

Final question: Is a 750w or 850w power supply needed for the build?

other pc parts:
- CPU: 4790K
- RAM: Hyper x Beast 16 gb 2400hz
- Monitor: Asus IPS 27"

Thanks.

gigabyte g1 is the most powerful 980 right now... it can also be further overclocked..its that good

also, between those 2 boards you suggested in your question.... they are almost the same...
Asus z97-A has a bit more fancy features
asrock z97 extreme 4 has the same thing at a lower price

they are both manufactured by the same plant since asrock is its sister company and is controled by the asustek inc

Clock speed matters, the others have simply pre OCed their GPUs higher out of the box, so there will be less OC headroom, I have the Asus 980 Strix and while I haven't had a lot of time to play with it, I've take the Core to 1250 so boost about 1350 and is fine, hoping to play this weekend if time stays free

If it was 970 I would have probably recommended MSI's Gold edition, but they don't seem to have released it for 980 yet.

It really depends on how much you value:

1. Quietness, if it is your top priority, then Asus Strix is probably your best choice (it has the quietest coolers).
2. Backplate, MSI is the only one of the 3 that doesn't have it, but the backplate is somewhat cosmetic.
3. Performance, MSI and Gigabyte should clock better because they both come with 2 8-pin sockets, Asus comes with only 1 6-pin and 1 8-pin, meaning Asus's card draws less maximum power than MSI or Gigabyte. At the end of the day it doesn't matter all that much (not a night and day difference, and silicon lotto has a bigger say), but it's 'free' performance.

Personally I would go with either Gigabyte or MSI, I don't value quietness all that much (especially since my case is louder, I don't see any point in paying extra for a quiet GPU), but please be sure your case can fit Gigabyte, it has the longest card @ 312mm.

Thanks for help guys..
But which one of asus, msi, gigabyte or Evga has better quality and is more trusted.
Considering the boost clock speeds goes from lowest asus to msi to gigabyte and the highest evga.
Is evga or gigabyte good with cooling and performance?
Should I go with the highest which is evga and cheapest or asus which is the lowest and most expensive or the other ones?
Thanks.
