Looking to upgrade from an EVGA SC GTX 660

Not sure if I am just being unreasonable or if upgrading will yield much better gaming performance. I currently have an FX-6300 OC to about 3.9Ghz with 6Gb or RAM. I was looking at upgrading to a GTX 970 or an R9 290X. Not sure if the performance increase will be really that substantial or if I should maybe wait a little bit.

get the gtx 970,its better

overclocking 6300 close to 4.0ghz will reduce any bottlenecks by it..yours is 3.9ghz, its still good

Thanks. Do you think the GTX 970 is worth upgrading to? I'm just wondering if the performance increase will be worth the 330-400$ investment.

ofcourse 970 is totally worth it... its a great card.. good investment

you might be able to play every game on ultra settings for next 2 years, no doubt

Yes, the 970 is substantially better.

You may want to consider overclocking your FX6300 further to make the most of it (if you cpu cooler is good enough).

According to Tom's, they recommend to upgrade only if the difference is at least 3 tiers higher
