Really not too sure about these systems they seem like the would both perform well rendering, light video editing and heavy photoshop illustrator work and obviously handle gaming well.

As for gaming I would like to go 4k in the next year or so with this system and run at ultra settings in higher resolutions.

Questions:
Is x79 a dead end socket? Very few processors and now a new socket is out.
Is x99 going to be advanced or abandoned in the next intel cycle? Is my only upgrade going to be the 5960x?

These two CPUs seem to go head to head with minor differences only apparent at higher resolutions and multi display set ups. The 4930k seems like it would be a bit cheaper by a few hundred dollars allowing me to get to 64gbs ram. While the 5930k sets me up for 4k in the future but the expense of even getting to 32gbs ram seems over the top?

With either of these systems should I go 295x2 for $700 and add another when 4k is more prevalent? Or just go 290x and get to tri xfire.

The charts I have read seem to point to a 1200w psu but I recently read here at toms that a 1500w is required for dual 295x2.

At the end I would like a system that lasts 5 to 7 years with a budget topping out at $2500 or there a bouts and the ability to upgrade for 4k or 5xdisplay set ups.

Thanks for all the help, and knowledge from previous posts, I hit up toms three or four times a week for great advice.

If you're going with 2x 295x2s, I would get the Corsair AX1500i or the Evga Supernova 1600, I have the AX1500i as shown below at the right. Although I wish there is a AX2000i, lol, I would definitely get that one if there was.

@Lone thanks for the advice, I had a xfx 1500w psu in my pick list, I will look into the corsair however on your recommendation.

I'm assuming by your system specs that I'm about $1000 short of that build with my $2500 budget.

Thanks for the quick reply and if your in the states happy thanksgiving.
