8gb ram not detected in windows7 64bit

Hey guy.. I've been going through this issue thats really getting to me.. I got 2 x 4gb rams plugged in my rig but however,suddenly its starting reading as "4.50 gb (3.96 gb usable"). Checked it through cpu-z and bios but is the same result anywhere. Even sent my Mobo to get checked but it was fine, as is my ram.
Please help me out here mates. Greatly appreciate your time and effort..

1) Check if the RAM is properly insterted into the slot.
2) Try other slots and see if that works.

**1) is the first thing you should try and if that doesn't work,try 2).

Hey everybody, thanks a ton for your time.. I already thought of the preliminary checks.. Mobo is Gigabyte 970DS3-P..
Cleant the system thoroughly. Also checked the ram ports by exchanging them and found that some ports were not supporting properly, so took the mobo to the service centre and got it checked.. After that, though the ports were working, the memory issue remained..

Plz help guys.. I am desperate and really would not like to format my system.. Cheers..
