I have an i7 4790k and a gtx 970 and 16GB of ram, while he has a i7 3770s and dual gtx 760 ti's and 12 GB of ram, whats your opinion and which build would you guys rather have?

Better at what? Cpu diff is irrelevant for games. His sli should beat your single card in many games but with more power draw and maybe noise. If he's running 12gb thats just jacked in a dual channel system but your 16gb doesnt buy any advantage over 8gb for gaming. So... It depends.

sli is better (depends on which card though) but can be problematic depending on the game. and of course draws more power and generates more heat.

why don't you just play same games using the same settings then compare fps

i've seen no better if not worse performance.

1) Single is better compatibility and efficiency. Although SLI is better at times when a card better is way more expensive, like 2 780 and a Titan Z, 2 760 does not get better than 1 970. Plus, assume SLI is 2/3 the performance 2 of the cards. The 2 760 will be, in PassMark, 6765, estimated, while the 970 scores 8701.

2) The only thing he hasn't said was what setting he's running on.

1) stop arguing over pointless stuff!

2) his computer has a better set up for multi monitor gaming

3) your build is more power efficient with better processing power

4) it depends on cooling temperatures and clock speeds too!

5) be grateful with it and don't be jealous of eachother ;)
