R9 295x2 vs GTX970 SLI vs GTX980

I'm wondering which one would be the best for either a triple monitor setup or a 4k display.
XFX R9 295X2: 679.99USD
EVGA GTX970 SLI:758USD
GTX980:600USD

either the 295 x2 or the 970. It depends on a few things. if your motherboard only has 1 pcie slot, then the r9 295 x2. if it supports sli, id get the dual 970's.

Which 4k TV are you going to buy if you are going for 4k? And what would be your budget for that TV?

Edit: Or if you want triple monitors im about to buy, I'd say get the 970 SLI.

Check some benchmarks but Im sure the 295 outperforms sli 970's at 4k. At lower resolutions I think they perform the same.

295x2 is the strongest current gpu...
U should go with it since it has massive 8 gigs of vram. It comes in handy for multi monitor setups...
But if u would like then go with a single 980 for now and add 2nd 980 in future. This would b best option for u...

I thought the 8gb on the 295 was shared 50/50 by each gpu and like all crossfire/sli cards would act the same as a single 4gb card i.e two 4gb cards in sli/crossfire dont have a combined 8gb but still only 4gb

You're right, he's totally wrong, the 295x2 only has 4Gb of VRAM. Crossfire/SLI does not combine the VRAM

with a big high quality PSU go with the r9, with a smaller lesser quality PSU go with the 970s
