My sound card gets interference from my graphics card which causes my mic to pick up tons of static. I plugged my front panel audio jacks into my motherboard and installed my onboard audio's drivers. I set my onboard mic jack as the default input device, but now I can't get my mic to work with Skype or Fraps. I can check listen to this device and I'm able to hear myself fine. Is it just a case of the 2 audio devices not playing nice together?

Please let me know if you need any additional information.

My sound card is an Asus Xonar DG, and my onboard is the Realtek ALC887. I'm using the mic on my Turtle Beach x12 headset.

Solution
Did you configure Skype to use your onboard mic output?
Tools, Options, under General, Audio settings.

Generally the settings in programs dont change even if you change in the control panel. The program goes by what was set up at the time of installation.
