I want to hook up 2 5400 HDDs in Raid 0 but i only have 1 Sata 3 cable and the other may be a Sata 2. i've heard sata 3 is over kill for anything but a SSD, but will having 2 different cable speeds impact anything in Raid 0

A SATA cable is a SATA cable. II or III, makes no difference.

But why are you trying a RAID 0 with 2 slow drives? You're taking 2 slow drives and making them somewhat 'faster'. An SSD will blow that out of the water in terms of 'speed'.

And please don't say you are going to use this for the 'boot drive'.
