Hi Tom'sHardware,

I'm new to the PC world, as well as this site. Right now, I'm in the market for a gaming PC. I'd prefer to build my own. I wanted to know, how is this $1350 build I put together? I used pcpartpicker.com to put it together.

Are there any areas where I can improve? I will be pushing the i5-4690K to about 4.2-4.4 Ghz. I want the most silent, powerful, and efficient computer I can build at this price point. If you'd like to move things around, then you may do so. I'd like to spend a minimum of $1000 and a maximum of $1375. I will upgrade in the future to SLI, so the power supply and motherboard must support that. I also will later upgrade to Broadwell, so a Z97 motherboard is pretty much essential. Keep in mind that the theme is red and black, however, I'd like to keep the graphics card part (Gold Edition MSI 970).

Lastly, I want to make no comprises whatsoever. I want the build to be as balanced as possible in all aspects. So that is also a necessity. Thank you for your time.

This would be a better build for a red theme. The MSI 970 Gaming (non-gold) is a great card. The Gold edition is overpriced, MSI doesn't bin their chips so a higher OC is unlikely and even with the copper heatsink, temps are only a few degrees better. You may also have an issue finding one in the future for SLI should MSI stick with the 'limited' edition title.

I added an HDD, which you will need for gaming. I changed the motherboard to the Asus Hero, a great board and it looks awesome with a red themed build.

I switched the SSD to an MX100 in this build to drop the price a bit, it's a great SSD. I also changed the PSU to a better, cheaper unit.
