CPU Cooler Issues; Motherboard Odd Screw Length?

Alright so, I have an ASUS P8Z77-V LK Motherboard with an i5-3570k installed and wanted to get a CPU cooler to improve my temps. I was looking at getting the Hyper 212 EVO upon a couple recommendations, just in case anyone's interested.

That's not the problem.

This is:

That little screw makes it impossible to install any backplate because of where it sits - I'm pretty sure it's the screw that the CPU cover hooks under the head of, but I'm not 100% certain. I need to be able to sit the backplate flush against each hole on the motherboard I assume, so my question is this: The other two screws in the picture are both the same length and end at the lip of their sockets, but the one indicated juts out by comparison. Would it be a bad idea just to take a file and shorten the screw so that it's not in the way?

Am I just being stupid and does the 212 EVO's universal mounting kit make this a non-issue?

I went to builds on PCPartPicker using your mobo, and selected the Hyper 212 evo as the cooler. Seems everyone was able to install it no problem, and plenty of people have used this cooler with the same mobo. You shouldn't have a problem.

I don't know why I didn't think to do that before, so much simpler. I'd expect the screw lengths to be the same on this motherboard as everyone else's.
never had a problem installing the 21 evo,but did a lot of trial installation to be sure the first time.have you tried fitting the backplate to see if the screw causes a problem?i wouldnt file the screw as the filings could potentially short out your board.rather remove the screw and either put a shorter one in or cut down the existing one.

I haven't purchased the 212 EVO yet, because I'd rather have a solution before purchasing it. I'm sort of just hoping that I can find out whether or not I can mount it without any problems and forego worrying about the screw completely.

You should be able to file the screw if it really is an issue, just do it away from your components, and make sure you clean it well so there is no residual filings on it. Remove the screw and file it, clean it, put it back. That is if there really is a conflict with installing the cooler.

That screw isn't part of a backplate - that's part of the motherboard. Does anyone know whether or not the backplate for the 212 would provide clearance for that screw? I see that it has several holes in it. One possibly in the location of that screw.
