Asus GTX 970 Strix boost clock

Hi,

Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Whenever I play games using this card, I find that the max core clock is 1342 Mhz (constant) at max temp of 73C, instead of 1253 Mhz boost clock.
I haven't overclocked the card and the card is stable at that clock speed.
So, I'm wondering whether this is normal or did I accidentally overclock it?

It's normal. Modern cards have the ability to overclock automatically depending on several safe factors.
It's called GPU Boost 2.0 from nVidia.

Thanks @TheMentalist. So the GPU Boost 2.0 allows for even higher clock than the advertised boost clock provided that there's room for temperature?

Yes, when the temperature is right and the card needs some extra power, GPU Boost kicks in.
The advertised boost clock is tested with the cooler the card comes with and is guaranteed to hit it.
It's a safe feature, nothing to be worried about.
