Looking for internal HD for storage to go with an SSD

Greetings,

I am just trying to finish off my computer build and can't decide on a HD. I have a 850 Pro 256GB SSD for my OS and some games etc. but need a large HD for general storage. Probably around 2-4 TB. I was looking at the Western Digital ones. Is Black overkill for backup? Would Red or Green be better? Or any other suggestions? Thanks!

Hey Phuree. As uplink-svk said, the Red drives are good, but they are designed for totally different purpose than storage. If you want a drive for storage which runs cool and quiet and is energy efficient, you can't go wrong with the WD Green drive. If on the other hand you want to have both storage and performance (e.g. if you want to install games on it, video edit etc.), then go with the WD Black drive, which is the performance HDD of the color series.
In your case I wouldn't go for the WD Red drive or the enterprise models which were mentioned... if it's mainly storage that you want - go with the WD Green.
Here you could take a look at the features of both drives and compare them for yourself:

I was kinda going back and forth between the black and red. I hear the red is more quiet but run consistently and designed for a NAS Raid. Just can't decide....
