Is the 8320/8350 worth it?

As you probably know from the title, I'm questioning the 8320/8350. Im thinking about changing the CPU in my build from a 8320 to a 6300, so i can fit a gtx 970 into my budget. Is it worth it, purely for gaming? I looked at the Far Cry 4 recommended settings for a reference of what next-gen titles recommend, and it recommends an i5 2400s or amd fx 8350. Also, is it good to pair AMD CPU's and Nvidia GPU's together, and vise-versa?

Hi
An i5 4440 would be better, but if the budget of the (CPU+mobo) can't fit on yours and you need to downsize the GPU, keep your mobo and go for an FX 8320 with OC, better than the FX 6300 in games like Watch Fogs and Crysis 3

yeh im NOT planning on getting a 8350. My mobo is Gigabyte GA-970a-(UD3P,D3,D3P(lol)) dont know what to go with. the gpu i would be going with is the r9 290, but the gtx 970 seems to be a better value. also, are you sure the i5 4440 wont slightly bottleneck the GtX 970?

Like AHBman said, better to go with an i5, even a i3-4330 will yield you similar performance a FX-6300 will give you, but it will give you a good upgrade path all the way to a i7-4790k when you need a better CPU, whereas going with AMD right now will leave you only the FX-8350 which won't give you a substantial improvement over the FX-6300 (at least not for gaming).

Ok, thanks. The only problem is its much more expensive...

Hi I just bought the GTX 970 yesterday and the reason why I chose that over the r9 290 or r9 290x is because it performs a bit better than both of them and uses less power. Also if you are going with the i3 go with a hyperthreaded one or one of those lower end i5s other people have recommended you

Ill see what i can do, price wise. Im hoping prices will drop a little during Cyber Monday. My budget is $750, so what mobo, gpu, cpu do you recommend I get?

Hmm that budget is a bit low so if you want a balanced build

You can add in CPU cooler and upgrade your CPU to an overclockable version for this

Wow, thanks for the quality answer... I will be getting a little extra money later, so i could just go with your build, minus the gtx 970, and get it later. I can deal with integrated graphics for a month...

Oh that's not my build xD I spent $1500 for futureproofing :p but yes I think you should go with the balanced one without the GPU and then get the 970

Edit: The one you'll be getting is also very good and can probably last for 2 or 3 years

OK :D While we are talking about computers, i might as well ask about my other option.

gpu: r9 290
cpu: fx 8320
mobo: gigabyte ga-970a-d3p

is that better? the r9 290 isnt as efficient or good performance wise, but is the good?

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-990fxagd65v2 this motherboard is better and probably costs less :3 I would say that the r9 290 and 8320 is good for performance to budget ratio. My current build has the 8320 and the reason why I chose this before because I noticed that future games may start using more than 4 cores in ultra.

Here's a chart of the difference between the r9 290 and 970

Oh crap I edited this by accident what I said before was that the 970 can't really overclock and that you can stick with it if you don't overclock. It's not like it can't because my Asrock 970 overclocked the 8320 to 4.2Ghz with no problems. Also I like the MSI board better because I think Gigabyte has a higher DOA rate.

1) Intel cards are fine with msi mobos?
2) Does it matter whether i get a fx 8320 or 6300 instead of an intel card?

MSI motherboards are actually pretty good but if you want a Z97 board it's more expensive than the AMD 990/990FX boards

Edit: I think the AMD one loses 5-10% of the performance
