So two years ago, before I got knowledge about anything computer related, i bought an Acer Predator G3620 with the following stats: i7-3770, Geforce GT645, 16GB DDR3, 500W power supply and 1TB HDD

Now i stumbled upon the issue that i sort of want to upgrade my GPU, since it doesn't perform as good as i would like it to anymore. I've read several places that it's not possible to upgrade the GPU in the Acer Predator, but I've also read that you can again. I'm just not sure if it's possible to upgrade, and I'm not sure if the 500W can support a GTX 970 (which is the one I'm thinking that I'll be getting) together with the other parts that are currently in the computer.

Thanks in advance for any answers :)

jA standard length 770 should fit into the PCIE slot just fine. It will be a bit longer then your 645, but should fit into the case.
The power supply becomes the real issue.
Nvidia recommends a power supply with a minimum of 600 watts with a min. of 42amps (current) on the +12volt rail(s). Wattage is not the critical factor, but continuous current or amperage that can be provided on the 12v rail at 40-50degrees C. You will need the proper power connections from the power supply, and these vary by manufacture; some require two 8pin connections, some require 1 8pin plus 1 6pin, and another I looked at used only one 8pin.
Look at the side sticker on your psu and repost the data thereon and we can tell you if you can get by with that 500Watt unit. Keep in mind, also, that manufactures tend to put PSU's in their products that often are not actually able to deliver the power stated; so if there is a name on the PSU, please include that and the model number in your next post. You probably should also look see how many and what type/configuration PCI-E connectors you have.

I checked with some different websites, and they benchmark the GT645 to be just under gtx 760 and 750ti, which is why I think that i'd have to go with something better, due to my lust to get a better gaming experience :p

Look at a GTX 970. Might be a bit more then 770 but a better and newer chipset, plus it should run on your 500 watt system. They are quite power efficient. Connectors might again be the problem as they take 2 6pin power leads.

GPUboss for example stated that the gt645 is, off what i read from the stats on the page, almost as good as the gtx 760, which would make it a "waste" of my money to buy it

Just saw a post on Nvidia's forum that the acer predator wasn't able to run with a gtx 970 due to the mobo not allowing it, I don't know the validity of this though, so if you guys happened to know if it was possible, I'd be so happy :)
