Hello all,

I currently am running my setup with a gtx 760 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130932) to a gtx 970 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487076)

I was wondering what the difference in performance would be, and how the gpu would run games like Far Cry 4 and Dragon Age Inquisition. Also wondering if there is anything better for the price.

The reason for change is that my brothers gpu died, so im giving him my 760 since it is a really good gpu, and we will split for the new 970.

So, what do you guys think?

Solution
I say go for it, there is definitely a performance increase from the 760 to the 970. Since you're splitting it with your brother, it makes it a better deal. I would recommend getting another brand 970 this time though. Get the ASUS, Gigabyte or MSI version. The EVGA edition have had some problems with the cooling.

Take a look at some benchmarks below between the 760 and 970.

There is nothing better for the price.

I recommend the EVGA GTX970 SC (1.17GHz model) for about $345 or you can do your own research.

Here's how the GTX 970 compares: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GTX_970_STRIX_OC/25.html

With a further overclock or if using MFAA you might get as much as 2X the frame rate you have for with the GTX760.

Your scores will be similar to the above benchmarks if you have a modern i5/i7 Intel CPU. If it's an AMD FX you'll get lower scores on average.

Don't forget to tweak settings for the best experience.

Alright, so it is definitely a good idea, I just have to decide where I want to go. Asus and MSI seem pretty good, but I always went EVGA for reliable-ness. Which one do you recommend?

MSI
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127832)

Asus
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121899)

Also, it might sound silly, but will this GPU fit in my system? the 760 fits pretty snug, so it cant be longer than it (there is some room for width though)

Ok, as for the rest of my setup it goes as follows:

Case: CM 431 Elite
Motherboard: ASRock Pro 4
CPU: Intel i5 3570k 3.4ghz
RAM: G.Skill Sniper Series 8GB DDR3-1866
GPU: EVGA SuperClocked GeForce GTX 760 2GB

Both of em are great, you'll be ok with either of those two. The MSI one has received allot of positive feedback.

Edit: nevermind, I see the case now. And yes the EVGA SC model is ok.

So any of those will fit? and what are the differences between the asus, msi, and evga models?

There have been a number of complaints about COIL WHINE on the MSI model.

Now read this from a review of the EVGA ACX 2.0 SC I linked:
" However, many early adopters reported coil whine on their cards, an issue that EVGA readily admitted to and has since rectified. We reported on this last week and found that revised cards have made their way into the channel so you can buy with confidence. Fan speed profiles on the new ACX 2.0 cooler weren’t optimized either; idle noise was far too loud at launch but a new BIOS was rolled out that put things right. "

After much research it appears to me that the EVGA I linked should be far less prone to this issue than the MSI model that came earlier.

Yeah I read about that. It's still a luck draw. You'll never be safe from coil whine, it just happens with high powered components.
I also think that most of the coil whine issues were from the first hash of GPU's. Allot of people had this problem with all brands, including Gigabyte and ASUS.
