I'm going to make a PC build, should I opt for an AMD processor or Intel?

Bare in mind I have a 2400mhz ram which I want to fully utilise and a micro-atx case.

I was thinking, AMD FX-8370e with an Asus M5A78L-M. These both will cost me £174. However the processor can max 1866mhz and I was told AMD overheats, although I was thinking to purchase a water cooler. However I'm not sure if I can overclock as easily on this motherboard.

On the other hand (Pricey option), an Intel i5 4690k/4670k and Msi z97m-g43. Which will cost me £240/234.

My question is, is it worth paying the extra £65 for a 4 core Intel? When £65 less gets you an 8 core which is more powerful but "probably" cannot utilise the 2400mhz. Or can it?

I'll be very grateful, if someone can save me from the hassle...

The intel side is more powerful than the AMD build, more power efficient, and can use your ram.

An i5 is more powerful compared to an FX series processor in almost all tasks.
The extra money will be well spent.

Not to mention most if not all micro atx AM3+ boards dont support the FX series well.

It depends on your budget. You get what you pay for. The Intel setup would be better. But if you go the amd route why not get a better motherboard and a 125Watt cpu. The motherboard you chose has no sata III or usb 3.0 plus 2 dimm slots.

Thanks for the info on the motherboard, had no idea.

It was the most expensive, latest "micro-atx" motherboard capable of running the fx and it does sound outdated, you are right.
