How badly will I be bottlenecking my new R9 290 gpu with a phenom II X4 BE 965 cpu?
I currently have a msi 790fx gd70 motherboard so it only supports AM3 cpus. Is it worth upgrading my cpu and board to get the most out of the gpu?

I really just want to be able to play games like Far Cry 4 and the new COD single player on high settings. I wouldn't mind spending around $300 if it's a big upgrade from what I have right now.

Either one would work fine.
