Okay so, i want the warranty and reliability of the R9 280x (it has great reviews). BUT the R9 290 has better performance though no lifetime warranty and there has been complaints of this card being noisy and overheating. Any advice? would it be overkill to buy the 290, is the 290 really that much better? both are close in price. the 280x is 230$ and the 290 is 270$. what would be the better bang for my buck? what company is known for making quality cards?

The reason im not going for the xfx R9 290 is because its around 350$

I recently thought of this too,
Now for the price the r9 290 at the moment is better bang for your buck, and at 1080p it will kick all types of ass over the 280x.

As for XFX vs ASUS. Asus makes great coolers, also on the Asus r9 290 it's a great cooler as well.
The Asus is much better, it comes with a backplate, better cooler and won't over heat at all. So if you have the money the ASUS r9 290 will beat the XFX r9 280x in all respects.

Also from some r9 280x owners there has been problems of artefacting. Due to the chip being overclocked too high, I mean it's a 7970 overclocked. Whereas the r9 290 is a new gpu core and is also much more stable.

So overall and in my opinion, the ASUS r9 290 is much better if you have the extra little...

Me myself is also going to buy the same card to upgrade from my old 7850 soon.

-good luck
Anything else ask here.

edit: also life time warranty is a good thing, but the ASUS card is actually made with better components, and if there is a problem with the card it'll show up within a few months of using it and you'll get a replacement free.

A lifetime of warranty is good but by that time you would be looking at another upgrade for your pc.

Honorable
I had 2 xfx r9 280s dd and they were utter junk, both struggled to keep temps below 90c, the coolers were terrible.

The R9 290 is about 40% better and currently very good value considering it matchex a gtx 780. Most after market coolers are excellent, quiet and cool, just dont get the crap reference cooler.

Great guys, thanks :) I'e had issues with dead parts in the past but i think ill just bite the bullet and go for the R9 290. Definitely seems like a better value.
