I have already posted some issues I had with my 2TB WD hard drive. But I need help again. My WD drive had suddenly failed a week ago. after that I scanned it with Data Lifeguard. but it says SMART is failed. Anyway the hard drive still connects to my laptop. But it is very slow. When connected a message appears to scan and repair my drive, but half way through it scanning stops and says that it cannot be repaired. and then the WD hard drive becomes Inaccessible. Apart from that hard drive can be opened and I can see all the files and folders in it. but it takes 10 seconds to go to a folder. And when I copy some file (USB 3.0) that copies very slowly (like 500KB/s). I'm very worried about my data. can anyone suggest what to do please?

Good day, kpvithanage!

I'm truly sorry to hear about your drive, it seems like it's failing. :(
I'd suggest to backup as much data as you can while you still have access to it.
You can also try with a different USB cable and on a different computer as well.
If you can't and the data on that drive is pretty important to you, I'd suggest contacting the nearest Data recovery company:
http://support.wdc.com/recovery/index.asp
If your drive is still under warranty, I recommend contacting our tech support:
http://support.wdc.com/contact/index.asp?lang=en
You can RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) it and get a replacement:

Keep me posted and good luck!

It sounds like your drive may be on its last legs. You should clone it, sector by sector, using a tool such as ddrescue.

However, to prepare your drive for cloning, you should apply the "slow fix" in the following threads:

http://forum.hddguru.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=29187&start=20

http://www.alexsoft.org/viewtopic.php?t=998&p=4345#p4345

Could you show us a SMART report using a tool such as CrystalDiskInfo.

Look for reallocated, pending, or uncorrectable sectors.

Your customer service is the worst!!

And to the OP, like the others say, copy all that data to another drive immediately...sounds like your drive is failing,

I'm lost... what's bad about their customer service? They're paying people to post to help you - I don't think any of the other drive manufacturers have reps here, and they're certainly not posting as much.

No storage manufacturer will cover your lack of backups. It's spelled out very clearly in the warranties and elsewhere.

I'm not going to explain all the issues I've had with WD customer service. Issues that have been caused by their mistakes...

I came here to tell you that I sent my hard drive to WD company directly and the sent me a replacement, no questions asked. That might be because I went through the support case. and before it was sent I was able to copy all data. like a miracle It suddenly worked for one or two days in perfect condition, so I could copy all the data. After I copy the data, when I unplugged it and replugged it was not working again. Anyway my problem is over. Thanks to you and other who helped me. Cheers!

More information about the same issue, I posted here. please seee the link
