Hello world,
I have build 2 custom computers and was wondering if it was possible to combine my 2 AMD powered machines to work as one greater computer?
They sit in the same room and are both networked, Just wondering how feasible it is to or if it is even worth my while doing so.
My reasons for wanting to do this are simple, I have 2 good computers and only one monitor. I originally wanted a second monitor but decided that having 2 sets of keyboards and mice on the one table was a stretch, I then thought why not make the two computers work in tandem to form one super computer.

Let me know what you think and how I may go about this, I know its possible because I know people have done it before with play stations. Thanks for your time :)

Grid computing, just given it a read and it's very interesting. But in my case your saying it's impossible or just impractical based on the time I would invest?

What you suggest is most definitely possible, but it's completely useless for home users.

Distributed Computing is an umbrella term for a variety of architectures and topologies for combining the resources of multiple computers together. All supercomputers in the world use some form of distributed computing architecture.

Unfortunately, distributed computing is best suited for tasks that can be broken down into self contained chunks which can then be farmed off to individual nodes. Few, if any consumer applications can take advantage of this.
