i have a Intel i7 2600 and it's running at 46-49c at idle and 89-98c at heavy Games. i tried to test it with Prime98 and tried put my hands near the proc and heatsinks, and it's not hot, is it an innacurate readings at temps? i also checked CoreTemp and HWmonitor it's the same temp

edit: although my Sapphire R9 270x Vapor-x is running at 32-33c at idle and maybe 50-60c at loaded.

uplink-svk and King Hebra,

Before we muddy the waters and make an already confusing topic even more confusing, I strongly urge you both to read this Tom's Sticky: Intel Temperature Guide - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-1800828/intel-temperature-guide.html

From the Guide:

" ... Section 1 - Introduction

Intel desktop processors have thermal sensors for each Core, plus a sensor for the entire processor, so a Dual Core has 3 sensors. Heat originates within the Cores where Digital sensors measure Core temperatures. A single Analog sensor under the Cores measures overall CPU temperature.

King Hebra,

98C is throttle temperature. It shouldn't be exceeding 80C. Recent versions of Prime95 run AVX code on the Floating Point Unit (FPU) math coprocessor, which produces unrealistically high temperatures. Please use Prime95 version 26.6 - http://windows-downloads-center.blogspot.com/2011/04/prime95-266.html

Stock cooler or after market?

Have you replaced the thermal compound?

Ambient temperature?

Also, please give this Tom's Sticky a read: Intel Temperature Guide - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-1800828/intel-temperature-guide.html

the temperature here now is very cold, even my table is very very cold, i have the stock cooler. and yeah replaced the thermal, is there any chance it could be caused by the cooler? . if it is i would buy a cheap one, then first quarter next year i would buy a seidon maybe. if it's not on cooler side, is there anything i need to know?

bump

I reapplied the thermal

its reading on bios proc temperature : 62c from 90c(before i reapplied the thermal)
on hwmonitor : 40c on idle, still 90c, what is happening? the cpu fan is spinning at 1900rpm on bios

It behaves as though at least one of the push-pins is not securely latched completely through the motherboard. Intel's stock cooler is notorious for this problem. The push-pins are very deceiving, and may appear to be seated when they're not.

Please start Prime95 version 26.6 - http://windows-downloads-center.blogspot.com/2011/04/prime95-266.html ... Do not use a later version.

Run Small FFT's and push firmly on each corner of the cooler while watching your Core temperatures. Give it time to respond. When you push on the loose corner, your temperatures will drop significantly. You might even be able to wiggle the entire cooler.

There are several good YouTube videos about how to get the stock cooler securely seated.

i did make sure it is securely seated, i watch on the backplate side and the pin is push throughly, i am planning to buy a cpu cooler , Ice Edge Mini FS something like that name, it is more easy to install than the stock cooler of a intel >.<

i tested it on prime95 with the version u linked it with, it now stays on 80c on 100% load on 4 cores.

will cheap cpu coolers like Deepcool Ice Edge Mini FS? , my money for buying a liquid cooler like a Corsair or Cooler Master h100i like that , i am investing it for a bigger monitor because what i have now is only 14"" inches with 1360x768 resolution. what cheap cpu cooler would be the best?

Case CPU Cooler Limit : 155m

You have some serious issues in there mate. My ex 2600K Golden Sample was running at stock settings up to 48-50°C at burn with NH-D14, and when I hit him to 5 GHz which he managed, he never went up to 80°C.

But on stock cooler, it"s still too much. Go get Noctua NH-D14 if You have money, if not, get CM Hyper 212 Evo.

uplink-svk,

Please read the most recent posts. King Hebra was using the wrong version of Prime95. It's a common problem. His temperatures are now typical.

His case only has 155mm so the 212 might even be too high, which if I remember correctly is 160mm.

yep, i think it is a problem with the stock cooler. i can't think of another way since i have 5 fans running , 3 exhaust 2 intake.

-what was your temp with stock cooler though?

so it's a common temp for an intel at 100% with 80c now?.

im using two, HWMonitor and CoreTemp which people commonly use.

i have a question though, does bios reads proc temp at 100%?

There are four factors that affect temperature readingfs. First and most important is temperature sensor placed directly on Your CPU [below it]. Second is motherboard temperature sensor. Third is BiOS interpretation of CPUs temperatures and motherboard temperatures. And fourth is software interpretation of motherboards software data [bios/uefi]. Temperatures in BiOS are many times biased, e.g. I've had high-end z77x-up7, and she was constantly showing me 13-15°C on CPU, and it wasn't delta to max, or something.

honestly, i only understands 50% of what you said, i'm just an out-of-school youth guy, i became a father when i got 17 yrs old.

-btw back to the topic, what is the dimension size of noctua?, if my mother approves, i will sell my bnew fx 6300 and get a noctua or maybe even more.

The relationship between Core temperature and CPU temperature is only shown in a few engineering documents. In order to get a clear perspective of processor temperatures, it's important to understand the terminology and specifications, ... "

thanks guys, as CompuTronix stated, CM hyper 212 evo is 160mm i think, i don't want to open my case =p, my fans and airflow would be wasted, and lots of dust will be freely landing my components. but no worries, i will definitely buy a cpu cooler.

More from the Guide:

-> Core i

2nd Generation 32 Nanometer: 2500K / 2600K (TDP 95W / Idle 8W)

Standard Ambient = 22C
Tcase (CPU temp) = 72C
CPU / Core offset + 5C
Tjunction (Core temp) = 77C
Tj Max (Throttle temp) = 98C

Mid 70's are safe. At Standard Ambient 22C, here's the typical operating range:

80C Hot
70C Warm (Heavy Load)
60C Norm
50C Norm (Medium Load)
40C Norm
30C Cool (Idle)
