I have just realized this is what has been causing my computer to turn itself off randomly. Yesterday I was playing Don't Starve like I do occasionally, and that's when it started. My computer turned off all of the sudden. I have never had any problems like this since I've owned this computer for the past year or year and a half. All the fans are running. This problem just occurred over-night for no apparent reason. I hope someone can tell me I don't have to shell out for a new CPU! If anyone is curious I am using the AMD FX 6300 Six-Core Processor. Help much much much appreciated!!!

EDIT: Also if it helps it's a pre-built PC

Solution

I recommend ordering it online, I wouldn't use the computer at that temperature. And I'd make sure the heatsink is on correctly now.

I just removed the heatsink to dust it. How can I be sure it's on correctly? Should I just google that? And BRB going to find an air compressor.

EDIT: By the way after removing the heatsink I can see the thermal paste that someone previously applied. Does this mean that the paste isn't the issue?

Hey, to anyone reading this thread in the future, holy hell dust can cause a lot of heat. Clean out your heatsinks! Problem solved!

by the way, it wasn't even that much dust, and it was causing 50-60 C temperature increases. so clean regularly for god's sake.
