I'm currently using a windows 8.1 laptop, updated from windows 8 via windows store, windows 8 was bought from Microsoft store (so no dvd, downloaded from Microsoft).

I have a 500gb hard drive with that 8.1 installed on it, but I'm getting a 256gb crucial SSD which I want to install windows on and then use the 500gb as a secondary hard disk (I.e 256 ssd as main, 500HDD as 2nd). I think I have two options,

1) physically install the new ssd into my laptop, and then install windows 8 into the ssd from my current windows 8.1 using the windows installer file from Microsoft website, then update to 8.1, then reformat the original 8.1 hard disk from the new windows 8 SSD or,

2)physically install the new ssd, put windows 8 installer into a usb drive, boot from usb drive, install windows 8 into ssd and reformat original hard disk

Which one is better? Or do I have it wrong? Thanks!
