Can I use this in my desktop?

I'm making a budget build and I'm curious as to if I could use this, I see "SDRAM DIMM GENUINE HP MEMORY KIT FOR HP PROLIANT SERVER"
Does that mean it wouldn't work for what I'm building?

That is ECC memory which will only work on very few desktop motherboards with certain Xeon and Opteron processors.

List your specs here and someone will help you select the right memory

I'm using a motherboard from my current computer.

Motherboard: Dell 0M017G
CPU: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5300 @ 2.60GHz
Memory: 4gb DDR2 800MHz
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition, 64-bit

And I assume my GPU is irrelevant, if you need more info just say, cause I'm not too sure what else to list..

I plan on removing the other sticks of ram and replacing them with whatever I plan on purchasing, is there possibly a cheaper alternative such as 4x2?

Sorry, I accidentally selected SODIMM before when your board uses UDIMM but UDIMM DDR2 RAM would be just the same price, to be honest you probably could get a new motherboard + 8GB of DDR3 + a new CPU for the UK price of 8GB of DDR2 RAM, but I'm not sure of where you're from and if DDR2 is cheaper.

Yeah, at this point I'm considering just buying a new motherboard so I can pay less for DDR3 rather than more for DDR2.
Located in America, btw, the RAM you posted would cost me 120 USD.

Baby steps for me, woo.
