I wonder if you could help me

Just in case you need to know, the OS (Windows 8.1) and my stuff are on the usual Partition C, and I know I have to leave such partition alone.

My knowledge of computers is very basic.

To cut a very long story short, on the hard drive of one of my computers there is an Unallocated space. I feel I know how to transform the hard drive's Unallocated space into a partition ( I feel they call it “Volume” ) but it's not what I want.

If at all possible, I would like to add half of that Unallocated space to Partition E, and the other half (of that Unallocated space) to Partition F.

But I'm stuck. For example, when I right-click on (for example) Partition E, the option “Extend Volume” is greyed out.

I've looked for the answer online, but what I found was a bit too dense—and too risky—for someone as computer-ignorant as me.

In advance, I thank you, very much, for your kind help

You can't extend an existing partition in to unallocated space.
First you have to create a partition there, then format it.

Right click the unallocated space and choose "Create new simple volume", wait for the volume to be created then right-click it and choose "Format".

You should then be able to extend existing partition E in to that new partition.

Thanks for your answer

Now I have created the new volume, as you said I should do.

However, “Extend Volume” is still greyed out, so I cannot expand the other partition(s).

Also, I noticed that the system does not allow to shrink a partition (even if the partition is empty) to zero. Which means that, whatever happens, there will remain a very, very small partition, and I will not be able to get rid of it. It's like going round in circles.

Anyway, thanks for your help. My fault. Next time I buy a computer, I'll leave the partitions alone.
