I am having a BSOD with the following error Stop 0x0000007B. The possibility of it being because of virus is real.

I have been using bitdefender and every time I use my computer it detects at least 5 threats. This month it has happened to me 3 times that I shut down the pc to go to class and when I come back 4 or 5 hours later it is still shutting down so I have to force it. On Wednesday I cleaned the dust from it and left to my parent's house, but today when I came back it just never started. I tried connecting it to an empty HDD and a USB with Win 7 on it but the same thing happened. Then I thought it could be a hardware issue so I took out one on the memory sticks and the boot was successful. I tried with the other one on that same slot and it didn't work. Now no matter which memory stick I use it never works and I get the BSOD with stop: 0x0000007B (0xFFFFF880009A9928, 0xFFFFFFFC000). I was reading on another forum how to solve this and misread changing the SATA mode from ACHI to IDE and did the exact opposite. Now I can't even access the BIOS. I press the button (Esc) upon start-up but nothing happens. It just goes to scanning for drives.

Solution
Clear your CMOS to regain access to BIOS, refer to your mobo manual to clear it, also the access to BIOS is usually with F1/Del button.

The 0x000007B usually points to a failure in the HDD or a corrupted/infected file, you could start your PC with Seagate Tools cd (you can download it from seagate's website) and use the long test option to fix your HDD.

As for the virus you could boot with a live antivirus CD like from Avast (download it also from it's website) or kaspersky's so you can disinfect any virus in your system.

Thanks for the quick and accurate response, RaDiKaL_

Here are the updates:
-Successfully changed BIOS to IDE
-Ran SeaTools with no issues
-Could not find the live antivirus CD from Avast so I did it with AVG Rescue CD. The scan took a while and did not find any threats.

Now I'm back to where I was and the 0x000007B is still there.

Anything else I could try?

EDIT: I still find it peculiar that when I tried booting from a USB drive the error happened.

Are you sure the moment you installed your OS was at IDE mode? give it a try setting it to AHCI and see if it boots up, it won't cause any harm anyways.

As for the antivirus... seems Avast no longer lets download it directly, if possible install Avast 2015 on another pc and use its "create rescue disk" option, either on a CD/DVD or on a pendrive.
